Half Speed Approach

A variation on the two previous approaches is to sail the same route but to do so at half your maximum speed. Using this technique you can return to the line earlier and therefore have more control over your position on the line. If something should go wrong (such as being crowded out or loosing your air) you have speed in reserve to overcome the problem. In the last few moments before the gun power the boat up so that you hit the line at full speed. It is important not to leave your acceleration too late because you risk faster boats coming over the top of you and disturbing your air.
